Welcome to My Greenhouse

Every tool on this page is something I personally use, have researched carefully, or would confidently recommend to a friend. My goal isn’t to help you buy more—it’s to help you buy better.
If a product saves me time, helps my plants thrive, or makes my greenhouse feel a little more peaceful, you’ll probably find it here.

🌿Greenhouse Essentials
Greenhouse – My greenhouse is truly the heart of Thyme & Tools. Having a dedicated growing space has allowed me to extend my gardening season, experiment with growing different vegetables, and create a peaceful place where I genuinely enjoy spending time.
Shade Cloth – I personally use this 40% shade cloth in my greenhouse because it lowered the temperature by about 10–15 degrees while still allowing plenty of light for my tomatoes, peppers, strawberries, cucumbers, spinach, lettuce, cauliflower, and beans.
Plant Stand – I love using plant stands to take advantage of vertical space in my greenhouse. They help me keep smaller plants organized and off the floor while still making everything easy to see and care for.
Potting Table – A designated potting table makes greenhouse work so much easier. I use mine as a workspace for repotting, starting plants, organizing supplies, and all of those little garden projects that somehow turn into an afternoon.
Thermometer – Temperature can change incredibly quickly inside a greenhouse, especially during the summer. A thermometer takes away the guesswork and helps me know when it’s time to adjust the shade, ventilation, fan, or heat.
Oscillating Fan – Air circulation has been one of the most important parts of managing my greenhouse. I use a fan to keep air moving, reduce trapped heat, and create a much more comfortable growing environment.
Heater – A greenhouse heater gives me extra protection during our colder New York months. I especially appreciate having it when temperatures unexpectedly dip and I have young or tender plants inside.
Irrigation System – This is one of those upgrades that can make greenhouse gardening much easier. An irrigation system helps keep watering more consistent while saving me from having to individually water every container by hand.
🌱 Seed Starting
Seed Trays – Seed trays keep my seedlings organized from the very beginning. I love being able to start several varieties at once and watch that first little bit of green appear.
Humidity Domes – I use humidity domes during germination to help hold in warmth and moisture. Once the seedlings begin emerging, I gradually introduce ventilation and eventually remove the cover.
Heat Mats – Heat mats have made seed starting much more reliable for me, especially with seeds that prefer warm soil. They provide gentle warmth underneath the trays while I’m waiting for germination.
Grow Lights – Grow lights give me much more control when natural sunlight isn’t enough. They’re particularly useful for seedlings because I don’t have to depend completely on our unpredictable New York weather.
Spray Bottles – A simple spray bottle is one of my most-used seed-starting tools. I prefer gently misting newly planted seeds rather than pouring water over them and disturbing the soil.
Potting Mix – Good soil is where everything begins. I like using a light potting mix that holds enough moisture for young plants without becoming overly heavy or compacted.
🍅 Growing Vegetables
Grow Bags – Grow bags give me so much flexibility inside my greenhouse. I use them for many of my vegetables because they’re lightweight, easy to rearrange, and allow me to make the most of a relatively small growing space.
Plant Supports – Once tomatoes and other vigorous plants really start growing, support becomes essential. I like having supports in place early so I’m not wrestling with a giant plant later in the season.
Fertilizer – Container-grown vegetables depend on us for their nutrients, so fertilizer is an important part of my routine. I use it to supplement what my plants are getting from their potting mix as they grow and produce.
Hose Feeder – I love anything that makes a repetitive greenhouse job easier. A hose feeder lets me combine feeding and watering, which is especially helpful when I’m caring for a greenhouse full of containers.
Plant Ties – These are such a small item, but I reach for them constantly. They’re useful for gently securing tomatoes, cucumbers, beans, and other plants as they grow.
🌸 Garden Tools
Pruners – A good pair of pruners is probably one of the tools I reach for most often. I use them for everything from removing damaged leaves to harvesting herbs and keeping plants under control.
Plant Saucer – Plant saucers help protect greenhouse surfaces and contain excess water from my pots. They’re especially useful when I’m rearranging plants or temporarily bringing containers indoors.
Gloves – Sometimes I love getting my hands directly into the soil, and sometimes I definitely want gloves! A comfortable pair makes pruning, repotting, and messy greenhouse jobs much easier.
Tools – I keep a small set of basic hand tools nearby so I’m not constantly running back and forth for supplies. A trowel, cultivator, and a few dependable tools handle most of my everyday greenhouse jobs.
Harvest Basket – There is something incredibly satisfying about walking out of the greenhouse carrying food you’ve grown yourself. A harvest basket makes it easy to gather vegetables and herbs—and makes the whole farm-to-table experience feel a little more special.
Kneeling Pad – Gardening involves much more bending and kneeling than you realize! A kneeling pad is a simple comfort item that makes longer gardening sessions much easier on my knees.
💧 Watering Favorites
Moisture Meter – I don’t like relying only on how the surface of the soil looks because it can be deceiving. A moisture meter gives me another way to check what’s happening deeper in the pot before deciding whether a plant actually needs water.
Hose – A lightweight, manageable hose makes everyday watering much less frustrating. When you’re working in a relatively small greenhouse, you don’t want to fight with a huge heavy hose around your plants.
Water Timer – A water timer gives me some peace of mind when life gets busy. It’s especially useful for maintaining a more consistent watering routine during hot weather.
Hose Splitter – This is one of those inexpensive little conveniences I didn’t realize I’d appreciate so much. A splitter allows me to use the same water source for more than one purpose without constantly disconnecting everything.
🪴 Indoor Plants
Plant Food – My indoor plants need a little help too. I use plant food as part of their regular care routine to replenish nutrients that eventually become depleted in container soil.
Mosquito Bits – Fungus gnats are one of those tiny problems that can quickly become incredibly annoying. I keep Mosquito Bits in my plant-care supplies for dealing with larvae in the soil as part of my fungus-gnat routine.
Yellow Sticky Traps – These are useful for catching and monitoring adult fungus gnats around my houseplants. I especially like them because they help me see whether the population is actually decreasing.
Grow Lights – Some areas of my home simply don’t provide enough natural light for the plants I’d like to keep there. Grow lights let me expand where I can successfully grow houseplants instead of limiting everything to my brightest windows.
Plant Saucer – I use these underneath indoor pots to protect furniture and surfaces from drainage. They’re simple, inexpensive, and something I always seem to need more of.
🧘 Garden Wellness
Bluetooth Speaker – Music is part of what makes my greenhouse feel like my own little retreat. I love putting on a playlist, podcast, or meditation while I’m watering, repotting, or simply spending some quiet time with my plants.
Sun Hat – I spend a lot of time moving between the greenhouse and the outdoor garden, so sun protection matters. A comfortable sun hat is one of those practical things I keep close by during gardening season.
Tea – Not everything in my greenhouse has to be about getting work done. Sometimes I bring a cup of tea out, sit for a while, and simply enjoy being surrounded by everything that’s growing.
Coffee – Some of my favorite greenhouse moments happen with coffee in hand. There’s something about starting the morning among the plants before the rest of the day gets busy that makes this space feel particularly special.
My greenhouse has become more than a place to grow vegetables.
It’s where I slow down, reconnect with nature, and remember that growth takes patience.
